Domenico Iacovo arrived in West Virginia in 1915 as a young boy to assist in the coal mines. A few years later, he arrived in Detroit to work in the auto industry. He was active in the early UAW labor movement at the risk of his job and personal safety.

In the 1930s, Domenico married Floria Lanzi Gubbiotti, a widow with a young daughter, Armandina (Dina). In December 1939, their daughter, Michelina Gloria, was born.

Domenico Iacovo was employed with the Chrysler Corporation on Jefferson Avenue, and evenutally became a quality control supervisor. He retired in 1966 after 33 years of service. Domenico passed away on September 14, 1979 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Domenico was a talented gardener and expert in the grafting of fruit trees. He cherished his time as a "Nonno" and delighted in his five grandchildren. On festive occasions, he was known as a sharp and meticulous dresser. Domenico also was known as a loyal Detroit Tigers fan and a tough Pinochole opponent.
