Jim Roberts, age 85, of Brady, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in San Angelo, with his family by his side.

Jim was born October 16, 1932 in Jackson, Michigan to Raymond Ray Roberts and Dorothy (Green) Roberts.

Jim lived a colorful and adventurous life with stories that could fill volumes. He left home in his early years and toured the Midwest with the carnival, where he cared for the monkeys that performed in the monkey show.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Soon after he returned home, he married Nelda Faye Anderson on July 1, 1953 in Dallas, Texas. The Roberts family resided in Dallas for many years until Jim's career took them to northern California, where he became the Chief Plant Engineer for NABISCO. He held that position until his retirement in 1993 after 45 years with the company. After retiring in 1993, Jim continued with NABISCO, on a consulting basis for many years.

Jim and Nelda moved to Brady in 1997, where they made their home. Among his passion for fixing all things broken, he enjoyed fishing, having morning coffee with his friends, sitting outside with his cats and "piddling" in his shop.

Graveside services with military honors for Jim Roberts will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 26, 2018 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady.

The Roberts family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady.

Pallbearers will be Rick Curtis, Sam Eid, Skip Hansen, Paul White, Marty Straub and Ray Straub.

Jim Roberts is survived by his loving wife of over 64 years, Nelda, of Brady, Texas; daughter Audrey Lynn Hansen and husband Skip of Dallas, Texas; son Jerrel Dwaine Roberts and fiancé Theresa of Stanton, Texas; granddaughters Elizabeth Jauhari and Dashelle Jauhari and husband Sam Eid.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Eugene Roberts, four brothers and one sister.

Memorial contributions in memory of Jim Roberts may be made to: Hospice of San Angelo, Inc, P. O. Box 471, San Angelo, Texas 76902.
