Services for Joe Bill Grimes, 82, of Canton are scheduled for 10 am Thursday April 5, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Canton with Rev. Adam Muckleroy officiating. Graveside services will be held at DFW National Cemetery at 2pm Thursday April 5, 2018 in Dallas.

Joe passed away on March 27, 2018 in Canton after a 21 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Joe was born on August 1, 1935 in Lufkin to Calvin Grimes and Minnie Hambrick Grimes and grew up in the Beulah Community. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1959, then was in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1961.

He met Jean Johnson in Dallas and the two were married in 1966. He was a master electrician by trade and was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #20 for 52 years. Joe was a 30-year resident of DeSoto, and most recently a 20-year resident of Canton, where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

In retirement, he liked to fish and garden and always had to have a project to keep himself busy, whether it was tending to cattle or mowing the pasture on his tractor. He never met a dessert he didn't like and in parting, would always tell you to "Be pretty" or say "I'm glad you got to see me".

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nolan Grimes, Ollie Grimes, Curtis Grimes; sisters, Lois Jones, Adelle Hooks, Maudice Davis.

Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jean Grimes; daughter, Annette Tunnell and husband Stephen III ; daughter, Jackie Milam and husband Carlton; daughter, Amy Collins and husband Kent; granddaughter, Ashley Waits and husband Ben; grandson, Stephen Tunnell IV; grandson, Clinton Fredrick; grandson, Zack Milam; grandson, Adam Milam; grandson, Randy Milam; granddaughter, Rachel Collins; granddaughter, Rebecca Collins; great grandchildren Abigail Waits and Wesley Waits; and brother, Leonard Grimes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, TX 75701 or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
