Russell C. "Butch" Hoachlander, Jr., 76, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis E. (Metz) Hoachlander.
Born April 10, 1941 in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Russell C. Hoachlander, Sr. and Mary (Mummert) Hoachlander-Myers, and the grandson of the late Luther and Mary (Biser) Mummert.
Russell worked for 26 years as a material handler for Caterpillar Tractor Co. and retired in May of 2000. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a proud member of the Dallastown American Legion. He was also a founding member of the Snake Pit Hunting Camp.
In addition to his wife, Phyllis; Russell is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Hoachlander; his son, Jeffrey Hoachlander and his wife, Donna; his stepson, Scott Saylor and his wife, Susan; and his step-daughter, Melissa Saylor Myers and her husband, Ray; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Russell's life will be held Friday, March 30 at 12 noon at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home; 104 W. Main St.; Dallastown, PA 17313 with Pastor Harold Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York, where military honors will be rendered by the Dallastown American Legion Post 605 Honor Guard. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday, March 29 from 6-8 p.m., and again on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York Unit American Cancer Society; 924 N. Colonial Ave; York, PA 17403, or to Emmanuel United Methodist Church; 2185 Windsor Rd.; Box 341; Windsor, PA 17366, or to Dallastown American Legion, Post # 605; 57 W. Main St.; Dallastown, PA 17313.
