She is survived by their three cherished children: Lynne Hooper Nicoletti of Genesee, Colorado; V. Bjorn Hooper III (wife Kitty) of Punta Gorda, Florida; and Scott Hooper of Windermere, Florida. Joan’s dear grandchildren include Kevin Nicoletti (wife Kristian), Matthew Nicoletti, Michael Hooper, Jenna Hooper, Kirstin Hooper, the late Amy Hooper, and great grandchildren Anna, Amelia, and Michael Nicoletti.
Joan graduated from Shorewood High School in 1947 and Marquette University in 1951, where she earned her PhB. She was a founding member of Marquette Ski Club and a Charter member of the Marquette Chapter of National Spanish Honorary Society. Joan studied in Europe during her Junior summer, and travel became a driving force in her life with Van.
Joan had great verbal and writing skills. She wrote for Van’s magazines, for Sanibel Island’s Island Sun newspaper, and for many national newspapers and magazines. During their summers in Door County, Joan wrote travel and other assignments for the Door County Advocate. Soon she became their reviewer of restaurants, “Dining Around The Door“. She was a member of the Midwest Travel Writers Association.
Funeral services will be on April 7th at Stella Maris Sister Bay site, the former St. Rosalia church, at 2410 S Bay Shore Dr, Sister Bay, WI; visitation at 9:00, and mass at 10:00. Joan requested that in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made to Stella Maris Parish, or to Scandia Village Good Samaritan (for resident needs).
