Jason Alan Carlson, beloved father, son and brother passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 after 25 years of complications from cirrhosis of the liver, caused by Hepatitis, received while serving a church mission in South Korea.
Jason was born March 16, 1973 in Pocatello Idaho, the second of six children born to Douglas and Deanna Carlson. He married Pearl Mohammadi, his former spouse, in 2003, and to this union a beautiful daughter Ellie was born.
He attended school at Lewis and Clark, Alameda, Pocatello High School, Ricks College and Idaho State University. He loved school and was in National Honor Society, where he graduated with highest honors.
Jason worked his high school years at Foot Locker saving his money for a church mission. He worked at West One Mortgage, Midvale, Utah as vice President of Finance and loan operations, and at several banking and mortgage companies in Pocatello, Idaho.
He was a member of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved youth activities, scouting, and playing church basketball. He served a mission in Pusan Korea from 1992-1994. He enjoyed the Korean culture and the kind loving people so much that in 1996 he returned to Korea to teach English. Recently, he served as a Primary teacher and loved teaching the 4 year old children the gospel. He was an amazing golfer and dreamed of owning his own golf course.
Jason loved his daughter Ellie deeply. She was his joy and light. He loved all little ones and was seen wiping tears from a sad face, placing a Band Aid on a scraped knee and fixing a flat tire on their bicycles. He brought spontaneous laughter while teasing nieces, nephews and cousins. He recently started umpiring and refereeing youth and high school athletics. Always caring and teaching, he enthusiastically officiated games with joy and fun. He was known for his compassion and would humbly leave sweet notes for those he loved. Jason will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sweet daughter, Ellie, Salt Lake City; parents, Doug and Deanna; sisters, Angie (David) Wilson, Eugene, Oregon, Candace (Jaron) Reay, Fruit Heights, Utah; brothers, Benjamin, Nicholas (Meagan), Pocatello, and Charlie, Los Angeles, California; grandmother, Roma Eskelson; nieces, Keeli, Hallie, Chloe, Ali, Juni Carlson, Alyssa Wilson; nephews, Conner and Brad Wilson, Jamaal and Brennen Carlson. He is preceded in death by grandfathers, Jay Eskelson and Wesley Carlson; and grandmother, Peggy Carlson; and cousin, Brian Carlson.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6-8 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S 4th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11 AM at the LDS Lewis and Clark Ward Chapel, 550 W. Cedar St. Pocatello, Idaho, with a viewing one hour prior. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello, Idaho.
