Richard “Rick” Allan Ulmer, 71, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at a local hospital. Funeral service will be 12:0 0 noon Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Lytle South Baptist Church, 1125 Industrial Blvd., with Pastor Rodney Watson officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dyess AFB Honor Guard at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and relatives at a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Abilene Funeral Home Chapel of Hope, 3349 North 12th Street.

Mr. Ulmer was born February 18, 1947, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to William Truman Ulmer and Lulu Horn Ulmer.

Rick served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from July 19, 1966 until October 1, 1987. He retired as Master/Sgt (E-7) and received numerous medals for his contributions and sacrifices to the United States of America. It’s because of brave people like Mr. Ulmer that we Americans have our freedom, thank you.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Joan Wanda Ulmer of Abilene; two daughters, Kimberely Walker of Abilene and Nicole Moody (Kevin) of Clara, Mississippi; four brothers, Roger Ulmer (Jane), Arthur Ulmer (Kathy),Roy Ulmer (Wanda), all of Pennsylvania and Ardon Ulmer of New York; four sisters, Carol Converse, Becky Miller (Merl), Mary Ramer, all of Pennsylvania and Alice “Trudy” Troisi (Mark) of Michigan; and six grandchildren, Ashley Walker, Katherine Moody, Amber Edwards, Willis Edwards, Evan Moody and Kendall Moody. Mr. Ulmer was preceded in death by his daughter, Michele Ulmer; his parents, William and Lulu Ulmer and a grandson, William Edwards.
