His relationship with IIT proved to be long-term one. He was a major benefactor & was instrumental in the creation of the Pritzker Institute for Medical Engineering there. He received an honorary doctorate in engineering from IIT in 1984, chaired the board of trustees for years & was inducted into the university's Hall of Fame in 2002. He taught night courses at IIT & began serving on the Board of Trustees in 1962, & served as a University Regent until the time of his death.
His parents were Fanny Doppelt & A. N. Pritzker & his siblings were Jay & Donald. Pritzker started The Marmon Group, an international association of autonomous manufacturing & service companies. He & his family were very active in philanthropic endeavors & were major benefactors.
Pritzker is survived by his wife Mayari & five children: James, Linda, Karen, Matthew & Liesel. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren & two great-grandchildren.
