Spc. Walter Freeman of Lancaster, California joined the Army about a year after graduating from Antelope Valley High School in 2004 where he played the snare drum in the school band and was co-captain his senior year. Estranged from his biological parents, Walter came to live in the home of his foster mother, Gloria, when he was 8 years old. He joined the Army soon after graduating from school in 2004. His military decorations and awards include a National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Global War on Terror Service Medal. He was 20.
