David Henry Walston, age 59 of Elmira, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 14, 2008.
He was born at home in Martiny Township on September 14, 1948 to Raymond and Wilma (Hillaker) Walston. Dave graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1966. He entered the United States Army in 1968, serving during the Vietnam War in the 25th infantry. Dave was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
Dave was currently employed by Silver Leaf Sawmill in Elmira where he was the field operations manager. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #2535 of Big Rapids, V.F.W. Post #2964 of Reed City, the "Order of the Purple Heart Society" and the "Greasy Fingers Two Cylinder Club" of Big Rapids. Dave enjoyed hunting and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He will be forever missed by those so dear to him including his Children; Stacey (Steve) Stilson of Morley David R. (Stacy) Walston of Traverse City Jacob (Angela) Walston of Rockford Anthony Visconti of Colorado His beloved Kim Visconti, with whom he made his home with in Elmira Grandchildren; Chase, Brynn, Brett, Caitlyn, David G., Belle, Stephanie, Mackenna, Madison, Nicole, Jonathan, Joshua, Anthony and Danielle His brother, Carl Walston of Big Rapids Three sisters; Luella (Phil) Musser of Big Rapids Betty Walston of Grand Rapids Rhonda (Steve) Bosman of Dorr many nieces and nephews and his adoring dog, Cramer.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-inlaw Jan Walston. Cremation has taken place and the family will share a remembrance time with friends on Friday, June 20th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. concluding with a few kind words spoken in Dave's memory.
