William S. Mayer (Bill) passed away in good spirits on March 19, 2018, at the age of 93. He was born in West Haven, CT, in 1924.

After graduating from Guilford High School in 1942, he entered the Army Air Corps and became a B-24 bomber pilot in the 15th Air Force, 460th Bomb Group, stationed in Spinazzola, Italy, and completed 31 missions. Shortly after returning home from the war he married Flo, the love of his life, and they moved to St. Louis where Bill attended Parks Air College and St. Louis University. Returning to Connecticut, he worked as a supervisor for American Airlines for 10 years before becoming an insurance salesman. Within a short time he opened the Wm. S. Mayer Agency, which he and Flo owned and operated for 25 years in East Granby, CT. Bill served on the East Granby Planning & Zoning Commission from 1954-1963; as First Selectman from 1971-1975; as a CT State Representative from 1962-1970; and as Judge of Probate from 1974-1986.

After retirement, Bill and Flo moved to Naples, FL. In 2014, they moved to Rancho Cucamonga, CA, to be near their daughter Robin and enjoyed the beautiful mountain backdrop and a new community of friends.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Flo (after 71 years of marriage); his brother Edward F. Mayer and his parents Stanley and Aldenia Mayer.

He is survived by his daughter Wendy Vettovalli (John), son Alan (Lisa), daughter Robin Rogers (Bruce), granddaughters Cara Jo Vettovalli, Lisa Butler (James), Tammy Sas-Mayaux (Romain), Becca Sarcona (carrying first great grandson due soon) (Andrew), Brittany Gonzalez (Antonio), and numerous nieces and nephews.
