Garry Wayne Abbott, Esq. departed from this life on Friday, November 10, 2017. He was born the third of four boys to Frelon and Geraldine Ensor Abbott on December 25, 1948. He graduated from Bessemer High School and, even though he was an avid supporter of Auburn athletics, he went on to study business at the University of Alabama. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Garry earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1982. He was drawn to the legal field by his love and desire to help others and focused his practice of over thirty years on family and juvenile law. However, he never turned a person in need away and was known by those close to him as the “Marcus Welby” of the legal field. He was an active member of the Bessemer Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association, more recently the Baldwin County Bar Association, and Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Garry was an avid Rook player, sports fan and longtime supporter of the Hoover Bucs where he was a lifetime member of the Big Orange Club and conducted the sideline reporting for football games. He took great enjoyment in supporting his children’s athletic pursuits and never missed a chance to cheer them on. Always the family man, in the past few years Garry took delight in spending time with his three grandchildren and vacationing at the Sandy Gull in Fort Morgan. He loved the Bright Star Restaurant and never missed a Supper Club outing. A loving son, brother, husband and father and grandfather, Garry is preceded in death by his father, Frelon Abbott Sr., and his mother, Geraldine Ensor Abbott.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rhonda H. Abbott; his three children, Erika Shelley Abbott, Evan Patrick Abbott, (Lacie), and Veronica Cannon Bramlett (McLean); his three grandchildren, Andrew, Handley and Chandler; his three brothers, Frelon Abbott, Jr., John Truman Abbott (Cheryl), D. Rick Abbott (Judy) and numerous nieces and nephews.
