JOY, JOY, John J. Papa of Holbrook formerly of So. Boston passed away after a brief illness March 19, 2018 at the age of 89. He is the beloved husband of the late Sylvia (Papsis) Joy. Loving father of Sylvia Barker and her husband Bob of Bonita Springs, FL, Patricia Shunstrom and her husband William of Bridgewater, William Joy and his wife Deborah of Holbrook and the late John J. Joy, Jr. Brother of the late Maurice Joy Jr., Julie Ferguson, Mary Krakauskas, Lillian Kelley, Catherine Joy and William Joy. Also 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his daughter-in-law Carol Joy and many nieces and nephews. John was born in So. Boston where he grew up and graduated from So. Boston High School. He went on to attend Franklin Institute for electrical engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for Bird & Son Roofing and Bird Engineering. Prior to that he had worked at Westinghouse, Sylvania, Kellick Engineering Co., Arrow Hart and Atlantic Switchboard. John will be fondly remembered as a mentor and teacher to others he worked with. He always took the time to help others understand various areas of electrical theory. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Friday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 68 So. Franklin St., Holbrook MA 02343 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in St. Joseph Church, Holbrook MA. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery, Holbrook. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Soc
