In June 1880 Tunis Vanwagoner (7 years old, born in New Jersey), his father John Vanwagoner (47, Holland, working at Calico Print Works), mother Lena (38, Holland), siblings John (16, Holland, working at Calico Print Works), Kate (14, Holland), Henry (4, New Jersey) and Anna (1, New Jersey) were living at Second Street in Passaic City, located about 11 miles northwest of the city of New York, Passaic County, New Jersey.
Passaic was founded in 1678 by Dutch traders. Industrial growth began in the 19th century, as Passaic became a textile and metalworking center. Passaic had in 1880 6,532 people.

On May 18, 1893 Tunis C. Vanwayeningen married in Passaic City the also 19 years old Anna J. Fussenecker, who had Dutch parents too.

On December 15, 1893 Tunis C Van Wageninge and Annie J M Fursnecker had in Passaic City son John and on June 24, 1895 Tunis C Van Wageninge and Annie J Fussenacher had a daughter, probably named Carrie. Later on it was said that Carrie was born in March 1895, daughter of Tunis C Vanwageninge and Anna J Meyers (?!). Apparently his wife Anna changed her maidenname later on from Fussenecker/ Fussenacher to Meyers.

In June 1900 T Vanwagener (36 [has to be 26] years old, born in October 1863 [has to be: October 1873] in New Jersey, working at a mill), his wife Ana (37 [has to be: 26], September 1863 [has probably to be: September 1873], New Jersey [has to be: New York], 8 years married, mother of 3 living children), their daughters Carrie (5, June 1894 [has probably to be: June 1895], New Jersey), Lina (4, May 1896, New Jersey) and Annie (4 months, January 1900, New Jersey) were living in a rented house at 198 Presender Street in Ward 4 of Passaic City, Passaic County, New Jersey.
Passaic had in 1900 27,777 people.

On July 31, 1905 Tunis C Vanwageninge and Anna J Meyers (?!) had in Passaic daughter Esther (Hoyt, who died in on May 31, 1990).
