Leigh A. Anderson, of Pleasanton Texas, died peacefully in her home with her family around her after a 17-year battle with cancer on March 20, 2017 and is joyfully in the loving arms of her savior, Jesus. She was born to Dorothy and Raymond Barrett in Pampa Texas on April 19, 1959. Leigh married David Anderson on July 25, 1981, thereafter moving to Atascosa County. She received her bachelor’s degree with highest honors in Fine Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 and was a retired kindergarten then music teacher at Pleasanton ISD.

Leigh loved music and was a very talented singer, director, and accomplished piano player. She was in the Texas Music Educators All State Choir in high school and played the leading role of Maria Von Trapp in the Sound of Music her senior year. She also performed in the musical cast of Texas in Palo Duro Canyon during her college years and was a member of the Concert Choral Choir while at UT. She has been the church pianist at First Baptist Church in Pleasanton since 1981 and has also played many times for the First United Methodist Church in Pleasanton. She led youth choirs and helped with children’s choirs at FBC for many years. She mentored tirelessly to her students to excel in singing. Both of her sons were in All State Choir while she was choir director at PHS. She was a member of the Singing Women of South Texas. She has provided music and singing for numerous weddings, funerals, school and civic events in Atascosa County since 1981. Leigh was honored as educator of the year at PISD in 2003. Leigh and her husband joined Volunteer Christian Builders in 2008 and traveled throughout the U.S. building and remodeling churches and Christian camps. Leigh has been on mission trips in Argentina with E3 Partners.

Leigh is survived by her husband David of Pleasanton; Sons Dane Anderson and wife Amber, Brian Anderson and wife Lacey; all of Pleasanton, parents Raymond and Dorothy Barrett; Brother David Barrett; Sisters Susie Birtell and husband Don, Becky McGaughy and husband Tim. She has four grandchildren, Levi, Ben, Jensen, and Colbi and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

Leigh touched so many lives with her enduring Christian faith and during her final days implored so many who rallied around her to share the importance of the salvation offered by Jesus for all who accept Him. She knew she was going to a better place.
