He grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved with his parents to Pearblossom, CA in 1968. He met his wife while on a triple date with his Cousin Larry and friend. (She was the friends date) They were married on October 17, 1969 in Little Rock, CA . He was a short order cook, a retail store manager and in 1973, he took a construction management job in Guayaquil, Ecuador, returning later that year. He managed feed stores and became tired of the excessive commuting and together in 1976, moved his family to Coos Bay, OR where he had a comic book store, Comix Galore and he managed a department store, The Hub. In September of 1976, he accepted the Lord. They stayed in Coos Bay until being transferred to Roseburg, OR to manage the Garden Valley Dept. store. The family settled in Sutherlin, OR in 1979. During his time in Sutherlin, he attended Union Gap Missionary Baptist Church and answered the call to the ministry. He also opened an Antique Store called Remember When Comics and Collectibles, taught a business class at Umpqua Community College. In 1982, he accepted the call to Pastor a Church in Watsonville, CA and headed back to California. He opened a store, Remember When Comics & Collectibles. In 1983, he felt the spirit lead him and his family to Salem, Or where he pastored the Salem Missionary Baptist Church until 1997 due to health issues. He also had an antique store in Salem called Remember When Collectibles on State Street for a number of years, umpired High School and College softball and baseball games, worked as the Facilities Manager at Washington Mutual, had an Estate Sale business with his son –in-law and daughter and remained in Salem until his passing.

Alan lived a full and blessed life. He had many careers and hobbies and met many wonderful people throughout his time here. There wasn't a person he met that he didn't like or couldn't find something in common with. He could be found at expos, comic cons, movies, Volcanoes baseball games, grandkids' sporting or music events, hunting for bargains or at Church.

Alan was blessed to travel many places with his wife including a trip to the Holy Land, Australia, Spain, Fiji, Mexico, Spring training in AZ just to name a few. Extended family trips to New York and Disneyland were fun with the most recent being last spring break to Disneyland and Wondercon.

Alan loved his family, they were the most important thing to him. Having all the kids, grandkids around him made for a noisy and chaotic time but he wouldn't have it any other way. We all laughed, cried, fought and played together just as he wanted it to be.

A graveside service was held Monday, 26th, 3:00 pm at Harmony Cemetery at Union Baptist Church in Sheridan Oregon. Thank you to those that made it out on short notice.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 31st 4:00 at the Quality Suites (5188 Wittenberg Ln. NE) in Keizer, OR. In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be made to Salem Missionary Baptist Church Building fund. 12234 River Rd NE, Gervais, OR 97026
