Orlan 'Olie' Jon Jacobs was born on December 19, 1932 to Gert and Dena (Wilken) Jacobs on their family farm in rural Akron, Preston Township, Iowa. He attended a local country school until he began working as farm hand, working with his father and other local farmers. He then joined the United States Air Force on March 19, 1952 and was honorably discharged on March 18, 1956. He then made his home in Ireton. He married Patricia Anderson in 1957 after returning from the service and they divorced in 1971. Olie worked primarily as a rural route mail carrier in Ireton, but continued working with Vernon Eilts as a farm hand: driving truck and helping with livestock and crops. Olie was united in marriage to Karen Bridgford on October 12, 1973 in Elk Point, SD. Olie retired in 1994, and he and Karen moved into Le Mars.

Olie loved to go fishing with his brother in law, Don, and attending Hinton Tractor Pulls with his son Jamie, brother in law, Don, and nephews. He also looked forward to anytime his childhood best friend, Donny Cornish, came to visit him. He took great care of his driveway and yard and enjoyed doing so. He was a loyal friend and loved his family dearly.

Olie is survived by his children: Shane Jacobs of Sioux City, IA, Kelly (Karen) Jacobs of Sioux City, IA, Jamie Jacobs of Monroe, IA, and Tonya (Devon) Wiig of Correctionville, IA; grandchildren: Joshua Jacobs, Jennifer (Jim) West, Amber (Matt Thompson) Jacobs, Blake (Heather Stueven) Jacobs, Josie Jacobs, Jessica Jacobs, Ashley (Ian Schmit) Wiig, Alexis Wiig and Caden Wiig; step grandchildren: Kody (Kelly) Wiig and Kyle (Kaela) Wiig; 9 great grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Margaret (Dave) Sitzman of Le Mars; siblings in law: Marilyn (Don) Marx of Remsen, IA, Sandy (Mike Durr) Wiig of Le Mars, IA, John (Vicki) Bridgford; childhood best friend, Donny Cornish; special friend and neighbor, Nick Ruden; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
