Jimmie R. Nichols, age 82, of Elwood, passed away
March 18, 2018 at HPH Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, FL following an extended illness. Jimmie was born on October 8, 1935, in Chesterfield, IN the son of Jesse and Jessie (Crull) Nichols.
On December 27, 1952, at the young age of 17,he married his childhood sweetheart, Marlene (Farr) Nichols. Jim & Marlene recently celebrated their 65 wedding anniversary.

Jimmie proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956, serving aboard the USS Rombach. He was a faithful member of Heartland Ministries in Tipton, IN and also attended Great Life Church while in Brooksville, FL. Jimmie was a hardworking, honest Christian man who passed these traits onto all of his children. Jimmie was a long time local contractor, and is responsible for many of the homes in Elwood and the surrounding community. His sons worked alongside their father at a young age, learning the building trade from their fathers hands. Jimmie was a self-proclaimed "closer" of souls for Jesus, and an Ambassador of the Kingdom of God. Jimmie had a passion for playing golf, working in his woodshop making canes and marble boards to give away to family, friends, and soon to be friends. Jimmie had a big heart and never met a stranger. He dearly loved all the little children. Jimmie was known as "Pappy" to many. "You have fought the good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith. Great is your reward!. " 2 Timothy 4:7

Jimmie is survived by his loving Wife, of 65 years, Marlene (Farr) Nichols of Elwood, Indiana; two daughters; Trina Nichols-Bryan of Elwood and Tina (Neal) Hochstein of Chesterfield, MI, four sons; Jim (Debbie) Nichols, Jr., Tim (Rae Ann Booker) Nichols, Ted (Teresa) Nichols and Todd (Cheryl) Nichols all of Elwood, twenty grandchildren; Heather (Rick) Webster, Joshua Bryan, Elijah (Brittney) Bryan, Hannah (Shane) Walker, Ezekial (Tiffany) Bryan, Jared Dugger, Danielle (Gary Gettle) Dugger, Clinton (Holly Evans) Dugger, Jimmie (Holly) Nichols, III, Tyler (Kate) Nichols, Duston (Lana) Nichols, Whitney (Katie) Nichols, Akai (Stephanie) Nichols, Joel (Amy) Nichols, Amanda (Chad) Kiser, Kyle (Tiffany) Nichols and Zachary (Lexie) Nichols, 40 great-grand-children, and many grafted in with love. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his Father, Jesse J. Nichols, Mother, Jessie Nichols, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral service March 24, 2018 at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana with Pastor William Salsbery officiating. Burial will follow in the Forrestville Cemetery.
