Obituary for Bonnie M. Cook

Bonnie M. Cook, age 91 years, a resident of the Bloomfield community, passed away Thursday evening, March 15, 2018, at 8:05 PM at the Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna.

Bonnie was born August 15, 1926 in Tunnel Hill, Illinois. She was the daughter of James and Ethel (Burklow) McHugh.

On October 2, 1944, Bonnie was united in marriage to Orville “Slim” Cook at the New Burnside United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2001.

Bonnie is survived by: her sons – Tommy Cook and Tony (Joan) Cook of Bloomfield; a daughter-in-law – Marilyn (Kenny) Upchurch of Marion; 5 grandchildren – Mike (Tracey) Cook of Harrisburg, Missy (Terry) Coonce of Tunnel Hill, Matthew (Linda) Cook of Vienna, Suzanna Mercer of McKinney, Texas and Cheston (Toni) Cook of Paoli, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Bonnie was also anticipating the upcoming birth of a great granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by: a son – Jim Cook; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers – Wayne McHugh and Raleigh McHugh; and 3 sisters – Gussie Schierbaum, Naomi Simmons and Golda Taylor.

Bonnie was a 1944 graduate of Vienna High School. She was employed as a cook and waitress at Ned’s Shed restaurant and later worked for many years as a clerk at C.L. McCormick’s Little Big Dollar Store. She was last employed as an office assistant by Shawnee Development Council where she worked until retiring in her mid-70’s.

Bonnie enjoyed making crocheted handcrafted items and working on word search puzzles. She especially enjoyed dancing.

Bonnie was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2018, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Pete Vinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Graves-Mt. Olive Cemetery north of Vienna.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 18, 2018, from 12 Noon – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
