There seems to be no gravestone, but her death certificate says that she was buried here, probably in the open space near her family members. She died in Pluckemin, NJ.

She was the daughter of Dr. Peter Skillman and his wife Louisa Beekman and was born in Harlingen in 1845. This birth date is based on the 1850 Census because she got younger and younger the longer she lived. She never married and lived with her parents and brother Cornelius and then with Cornelius after their parents' deaths.

Rachel Skillman of Blawenburg--an unincorporated area in Montgomery Twp.--attended the New Jersey State Normal School in 1869. This was the first teachers' training school in New Jersey, established in 1855. This is remarkable for a woman of her generation.

She joined the Harlingen Church and was baptized 30 January 1875.

She and her brother "adopted" a boy c. 1898-1900 and changed his name from Frederick Williamson to Frederick Skillman. He seems to have been with them until Cornelius' death in 1914. See FAG 104889738.

She, Cornelius, and Frederick moved from the family farm in Montgomery Twp. to Somerville between 1905 and 1910. They lived on 2nd Street. They subsequently moved to Pluckemin.

She died in 1912 without a will, and there was probate in January 1913. This shows she had assets. The bond for the executors was $1,400.00.
