Jacob Lorenzo (went by Ransie) Nifong was the only known child of Madison A. Nifong (1835-1864)(who died in an Union Civil War Prisoner of War camp in New York State) and Salome Weir (1830-1887), daughter of Houke and Susan Weir. It is not known if Madison and Salome ever married. Madison had previously been married to Catherine Hartman Nifong (1816-1848), with whom he had two known children. Madison later married Rosenah Weir (1827-1878) on 05 Mar 1850 at Davidson County, North Carolina and had an additional five children. Salome Weir married Jacob Miller on 22 Jun 1859 at Davidson County, North Carolina.
Ransie married Elizabeth Hill (1845-1901) on 22 Apr 1875 in presumably North Carolina. Ransie and Elizabeth were the parents of four known children, namely:
1. Mary Magaline Nifong (1876-1948)
2. Emanuel Cicero Nifong (1878-1940)
3. Elias Columbus Nifong (1883-1960)
4. Margaret Elizabeth Nifong Pickel (1886-1967)
