Elder Elijah R. Stewart, 53, of Sardis died Friday, November 2, 2007, of heart failure.

Services were Saturday, November 10, at Greater Mt. Zion Church Of God In Christ in Marks. Elder Willie Parker officiated. Burial was in Booker Cemetery. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home had charge.

Eld. Stewart, formerly of Marks, was born May 24, 1954, to the late Henderson Stewart and Sarah Mae Roberts Stewart.

He was the former pastor of the Power House and East Batesville COGIC and was a commercial truck driver for Beard Trucking Company. A son, Robert Linville Stewart, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Laize Stewart of Sardis; a daughter, George Lee of Batesville; three brothers, Eld. Leslie Stewart of Southaven, Eld. Elester Woods of New Orleans, LA, and Johnny B. Woods, Jr. of Memphis, TN; six sisters, Rosetta Martin of Milwaukee, Ella Bates of McComb, Essie Sims, Josie Rucker and Helen Stewart, all of Marks, and Shelley Ellis of Memphis; and his beloved horse, Scarface.
