On August 16, 1957, he married Clarice Olson. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
John served his country for 40 plus years in the WI Army National Guard with the HHC 1st BN (MECH) 128th Inf., attaining the rank of SFC. He was called to active duty in 1961 for the Berlin Crisis and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., then again for Operation Reforger in 1986 to Germany. He was also employed by the WI National Guard until retirement in 1991.
John is survived by his wife, Clarice; 3 sons, Michael of Mondovi, Jeffrey (Sarah) of Onalaska, and Kevin (Kimberly) of Eau Claire; 7 grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth (Matt) Modrich, Andreas, Cole, Brady, Austin, and Logan; sister-in-law, Avis Erickson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 sisters and 5 brothers.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Saving Grace Lutheran Church, 2124 Eastridge Center, with Pastor David Irgens officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Committal and Military Honors will be held at the Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
Memorials may be directed to Saving Grace Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.
