Son of John McDougald and Catherine Black. Prior to the Civil War, the family migrated to Florida. Archilbald married his first wife, Nepsy Buie, on February 11, 1843 in RJ, Gadsden County, Florida. She was the daughter of John Buie, a veteran of the Seminole Indian Wars. In 1849, Archibald and Nepsy moved their family to Kaufman County, Texas where their residence was a 420 acre farm, located in the Southern part of Kaufman County. It later became known as McDougald Settlement. To this union 8 children were born. Duncan J, Mary Jane, William Hugh, Catherine, John, Elizabeth, Effey, and Malcolm Calvin. Nepsy died on January 24, 1872. Archibald married his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Parks in 1873. To this union two children, a daughter, Minnie Lee McDougald, and a son that is believed to have died at an early age. Archibald was a confederate veteran of the Civil War. Enlised March 15, 1864 in Company H, 1st Regiment, Texas State Troopers. He furnished his own horse which was named "Silver-Heel", valued at $250.00. Furnished his own arms, valued at $40.00. His home was often a foster home for area children that needed help.
