Johnny William "Pops" Cochran, age 85, of Spindale, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Willow Ridge Rehab and Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.

Born February 23, 1933 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Perry Guy Cochran and Elizabeth McCurry Cochran.

Johnny worked for Stonecutter Mill for thirty years and retired from Mastercraft.

He was a longtime and faithful member of Spindale United Methodist Church and had a heart for helping others. He never met a stranger. Johnny also enjoyed reading westerns, working on cars and was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Janie Smith Cochran; two sons, Dennis Cochran and Guy Edward Cochran; two great-grandsons, Justin Coffey and Joseph Edward Cochran.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-seven years, Virginia Dalton Cochran; four daughters, Phyllis Coffey and husband, Zale of Ellenboro, Brenda Hoyle and husband, William of Bostic, Elizabeth Boone and husband, Robert and Jan Hicks all of Rutherfordton; one son, Johnny Lee Cochran and wife, Beth also of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Dot Difillis of California and Louise Murph of Spartanburg. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Spindale United Methodist Church with Reverend Ross O'Neal officiating.

Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service time at the church.
