She was the wife of Thomas Libbey and the mother of Laura Jean Libbey, romance novelist.

Suggested edit by Contributor: J Witzel (49542567): Elizabeth Nelson Libbey was enumerated in the 1850 US Census in Chickopee, MA as 24 years old and born Ireland. Her oldest daughter Mary Elizabeth was born in Chickopee, MA Dec 31, 1850. Elizabeth frequently changed her age and location of her birth on documentation making herself younger as her daughter Laura gained fame, but earliest records state Ireland. Her obit gives year of birth as 1837. She married Thomas Libbey in West Troy NY on Nov 19, 1847.

Thomas H Libbey has military pension file . He enlisted in Missouri even though the family is living in Rock County, WI at the time. Elizabeth goes to great lengths to get her pension application and then an increase because of her 2 girls. The girls are named throughout and their dates of birth, location of the Libbey's marriage, etc are all there.

The memorial stone for Thomas looks like a much smaller version of the monument erected for the Libbey women and similarly is inscribed "our father". Serving in the Union Army, he died of disease toward the end of the American Civil War and buried in a National cemetery.
