Ruth Lanell Jones Garrett, 89, passed peacefully from this life on the morning of Wednesday, March 21, 2018, in Plainview, Texas. Lanell was born on February 9, 1929 to Robert Lee and Eunice Rexrode Jones in Lockney, Texas. The family moved to the Hale Center area, and she attended schools in Hale Center, graduating from Hale Center High School. Hard work and family commitment were ever present in Lanell's life. She grew up as a true farmer's daughter, helping the family with every aspect of farm life-milking cows, hoeing and picking cotton, helping with gardening and canning, and later working at the family's grocery store. She attended and graduated from Lippert's Business School in Plainview. After graduation from business school, the next week she proudly began a 45 year career at Wayland Baptist University, retiring as the Business Office Manager/Senior Accountant. While working at Wayland, Lanell also earned her BSOE degree. After retirement, Lanell relished time at home as a housewife, enjoying family times with her grandchildren and later, great grandchildren.

Lanell married the love of her life Raby Garrett at First Baptist Church Chapel in Plainview on March 22, 1952, and on her first day in heaven, they celebrated 66 years of teamwork and marriage. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church and the Pastor's Class Sunday School.

Lanell leaves behind her husband, Raby, of the home, her daughter, Becky Buxton on Plainview, two grandchildren-both her favorites, Amy Campbell and fiancée, Sammy Rivas, of Lubbock, grandson, Matt Buxton, of Lubbock, great-grandchildren, Ava, Hudson, Kellen Campbell and their father Chad Campbell, of Shallowater, Sophie, Seth, and Shelby Rivas of Lubbock. She also is survived by a brother, Marvin Jones and wife, Lorna, of Fort Worth, Texas, and a sister-in-law, Judy Jones of Houston, along with sisters and brothers-laws, Joe and Joan Garrett of LaQuinta, California, Shirley Dean of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dora and Larry McBee of Plainview, Sharon Prutzman of Possum Kingdom Lake, and Jan Garrett, of Hereford. Numerous nieces and nephews were also included in the loving thoughts of family.

Lanell was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eunice Jones, long-time Hale Center residents, two sisters, Virginia Johnson and Wanda Johnson along with a brother, Melvin Jones, brother-in-law Calvin Garrett, sister-in-law Norma Phinny, and her son-in-law, Bill Buxton.

Services will be at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel in Plainview at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 24. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, March 23, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview from 6:00-7:30 PM.
