MISHAWAKA - Nicholas John Russell, age 23, beloved son, grandson, nephew, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018.

Nick was born on August 10, 1994 in South Bend, Indiana to Kathryn (Balukiewicz) and John Russell. He graduated from Penn High School in 2013. He was studying mass communications at Indiana University South Bend, and spent last summer with the Study Abroad program in Athens, Greece. He was an excellent drummer and creative writer who loved his friends, family, and four-legged family members. Nick had great compassion for those less fortunate, helping to raise funds for refugees, and Feed the Titans.

Nick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donna Russell, Charlene Balukiewicz, and Chuck Russell.

He is survived by his parents, Kathryn (Michael) Highland and John (Tammy) Russell; his sisters, Amber Russell and Erin Russell (Owen Glover); nieces and nephews, Dylan Miller, Nixon, Reagan, Addyson, Riley, and Emma Glover; grandfather, Thomas Balukiewicz; step-grandmother, Jean Russell; aunts and uncles, Karen and David Ogden, William and Pat Russell, Patrick Russell, David and Juanita Russell, Thomas and Karren Russell, Angela Brown, Gaylene (Guy) Shepherd, and Kelly (William) Legg; favorite cousin, Michael Ogden and many Russell cousins; forever friends, Daniel Ebersol, Becca Thornsen, Alex Hartman, Brian Parker, and Trent Pagels, and many more friends.

Nick was an avid Colts fan and his passion was Notre Dame football. Nick and his PaPa also shared a love of the Chicago White Sox.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, in the funeral home. Cremation will take place and inurnment will be at a later date at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Syrian Refugee Children of Greece c/o Kathryn Highland.
