"Come unto me, ye who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28

Husband, Father, Grandfather, Servant of God. Calvin Grady Hill went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2018, at his home in Hartsville, South Carolina. He was 70.

Throughout his life, Calvin touched all with whom he came in contact, far and wide. His passions were many, and felt deeply: God, his four girls, friends, and the beauty of nature; and with each of these passions, he made a lasting difference. Having seen the effects of cancer first hand, Calvin felt a kinship with the patients at SCOA (SC Oncology Assn), and routinely sat with and encouraged them as they took their treatments. However, he is probably best known for living a life of simply showing love, with hugs and handshakes, but most surely with his smiles. He leaves a great void in his absence, along with the twinkle in his eye.

Calvin was born in Lamar, SC, the son of the late Alton Grady and Mary Sue Plummer Hill. He served in the US Air Force with a tour in Viet Nam. He graduated with a BS Degree from Francis Marion University and a Master of Business Degree from the University of South Carolina. Calvin worked for Sonoco Products Company for 39 years as a Director in Consumer Packaging and traveled nationally and internationally with the company. Beginning in 1970, as a long-time member of First Baptist Church, he served in many capacities: two terms as chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School teacher, AWANA greeter/teacher, a volunteer with the Good News Club and chairman of the Fellowship Committee. Because of his knowledge of plants, and love for children, he was instrumental in creating the newly established Preschool Butterfly Garden.

He is survived by Linda, his wife of forty-nine years, daughters Cyndi and Cathy, and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Bays. Calvin was preceded in death by his sister, Ann.
