He was born in Brantley County to the late John Riley McClain and Mary Etta Dowling McClain. He was a correctional officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections and also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He attended United Church of God in Jacksonville, FL.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded by his wife of 50 years, Margaret "Nell" Rabon McClain; two brothers, Roy McClain and Walter McClain; and two sisters, Margaret McClain and Mattie Randall.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Bennett of Waycross and Kathy Lynn (Randy) of Waycross; two sons, Harry McClain (Camilla) of Waycross and Ricky Taylor (Pam) of Waycross; six grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson (Sam), Kevin Lynn, David Lynn (Kristin), Zach Taylor, Paige Taylor and Abilene McClain; four great grandchildren, Jade Lynn, Bryce Taylor, Bentley Taylor, and Beck Taylor; three sisters, Mary Beverly of Hoboken, Geneva Highsmith of Plant City, FL, and Barbara Teachey of Hoboken; a brother, Truman McClain (Donna) of Blackshear; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (June 14, 2022) at High Bluff Cemetery
