Susan Lopez Dailey Obituary:
With deepest sorrow and heavy hearts we announce Susan Lopez-Dailey passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18.

She was born December 20, 1954 in Pasadena.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian (Bachrach) Lopez.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Robert W. Dailey; brother, Richard J. Lopez and sister-in-law Julie Lopez (Camarillo, CA); nephew US Army Captain Thomas Lopez (Waynesville, MO); niece Rosie Lopez and grand-nephew Anthony Wear (Austin, TX); and brothers-in-law Pat and Tim Dailey (Huntington Beach).

Susan was a 30-year resident of Yorba Linda.Susan excelled in school and was extremely smart and witty. She possessed a library card at four and knew how to read before starting school. As a 13-year-old Ladera Vista Junior High School student, she won the Orange County Spelling Bee correctly spelling GULOSITY.

Susan graduated from Troy High School in 1972. She spent a college semester studying in Germany and graduated from Occidental College in 1976 with two BAs: French and German. She received her Masters in Library Science from California State University, Fullerton. In addition to speaking several languages, she had a particular love and devotion to English, spelling and grammar. She even appeared on Jeopardy!Susan loved books and people.

She worked as a clerk in the children's room at the Fullerton Public Library before working as a librarian at the Anaheim Public Library. In 1982, she headed to the Corona Public Library to become the head of Children's Services. "I know it sounds corny, but one of the greatest joys of my job is giving a child a book and having him come back and say 'That was a good book. Can I have three more?' When that happens, I say 'Hot damn. I done good.' " Susan retired from being a librarian in 2000. Through the No Child Left Behind Law, she tutored disadvantaged high school students in the liberal arts throughout Orange County until 2009.

Susan was an avid cat lover and voracious reader. She particularly liked science fiction and autobiographies.

Funeral services are Friday, March 15, 2013 at Heritage Dilday Mortuary in Huntington Beach, (714) 842-7771. Immediately after Susan will be interred at Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton.
