Ronald L. Yates, 69, of rural Fremont, died at his home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Ron was born on April 16, 1948 in Charleston, West Virginia to Harold and Peggy June (Combs) Yates.

He served in the United States Army and Navy during the Vietnam War. At one time, being stationed on the USS Lowe.

Mr. Yates was a member of the Clyde VFW, where he had served as Commander. He was also active in the Honor Guard, serving as the flag raiser at home Clyde Flier football games. He had also served as the District 9 Commander. Ron was a member of the Clyde Eagles and Moose and the UAW.

In 2000, he retired from the Ford Motor Co after 32 years. He then was the Canteen manager at the Clyde VFW for 14 years.

On February 15, 1986, he married the former Donna Bishop. She survives, as do seven children, Donna Yates, Prestonsburg, Kentucky; Christopher (Jennifer) Yates of Fremont; Ronald L II (Tabetha) Yates of Fremont; Samantha (Terry) Glick of Tiffin; Jarrod (Tammy) Leal of Greenfield, Indiana; Jose' (Bethany) Leal of Fremont and Victoriana (Craig) Wismer of Clyde. Thirty two grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. His siblings, Rodger (Linda) Yates of Green Springs; Carolyn (Duane) Copsey of Kansas, Ohio; Terry (Cheryl) Yates of Fremont and Brenda Pressler of Clyde are surviving.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 11:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. Military graveside services will be provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.
