William Pettet moved to Spokane in 1883, and in company w/F. R. Moore, F. Chamberlin, and William Nettleton, secured the block in which the Spokane County Court House sits today. Mr. Pettet, a banker and financier w/Messrs. Moore and Chamberlin formed a partnership, and established permanent arc lights to light the streets of Spokane/the partnership grew into the Edison Electric Illuminating Company, the Washington Water Power Co. (now Avista) which included the (Norman bros., of 'the Spokane & 'Birchwood'), Sidney Mitchell, and Fred Sparling.
Mr. Pettet also platted many land tracts in Spokane. Mr. Pettet along with his wife Caroline, owned 'Glasgow House' situated on a forty-acre tract along the banks of the Spokane River.
