Graveside services, officiated by Rev. Peter Parish, will be held on Saturday March 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Piney Creek United Methodist Church. Visitation in the fellowship hall will follow the service.
Mrs. Barr was born in Ashe County on July 5, 1935 to the late Oscar and Faye Brooks Caudill. She worked as a seamstress and was an active member of her community. She attended of Piney Creek United Methodist Church. Before her illness, she enjoyed being an active Auxiliary member of the Piney Creek Fire Dept. Gardening and canning were two of her favorite hobbies, and she also loved travel and flying. She worked and was a big part at the Interfaith (International) Camps at Elk Shoals United Methodist Campground.
She will be remembered fondly as she was beloved by all of the children and counselors. She spent much of her later years enjoying vacations with her granddaughter and daughter. She had happy memories of some of her favorite places and destinations: the zoos of NC and SC, the beaches of Wilmington and Sarasota, the shows of Las Vegas, the bays and valleys of California, Yellowstone and Arches National Park, and the many other National Parks of Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor - she will be missed by all.
Mrs. Barr is survived by her husband of 63 years of marriage, Herbert Barr; a daughter, Peggy Parish and husband, Peter; of Piney Creek, NC; a grandchild, Melinda Parish of Oak Ridge TN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
