Dr. Lynn A. Watson, 82, of Benton died early Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018, at Bonham Nursing Center, where he had been a resident since July 2013.

Born Sept. 1, 1935, in Waynesboro, Franklin County, he was a son of the late Johnson Earle Watson and Evelyn Elizabeth (Staley) Watson Miller. He and his wife, Carolyn (Cauffman) Watson, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7.

Dr. Watson was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and Shippensburg State College. He then earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from Penn State University. He was employed as a professor of elementary and secondary certification at Bloomsburg University from 1968 to 1991, at which time he retired.

He was an active member of the Benton United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime chairman of the church board. He served on many of the church’s committees and was a member of the choir. He also was a volunteer for the Benton Food Bank.

Dr. Watson was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Barbershoppers. He was a member of the National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing in Quebec for walleye and pike. Other hobbies included music, woodworking and traveling.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Carolyn, are his two children: John D. Watson and his wife, Jennifer, of Benton, and Barbara Holbert and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren: Garret and Nathan Watson, Cody and Bailey Steinruck, Cassandra, Joseph, Harrison, Julia, Hannah and Olivia Holbert; and a brother, John S. Watson and his wife, Janice, of Venice, Florida.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Benton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Benton, with Pastor Matthew Verstraeten officiating. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery.
