Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Darhl Estes of Anderson, Ind., Nancy Roof, and Jean Maher both of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a brother, Edwin L. Hart of Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two grandsons, Matthew Maher and Hadley Roof.
Mrs. Minton graduated from Staunton High School in 1935, Manchester College in 1937 and earned her B.S. degree in Education from Miami University in 1961. She began her thirty-six year teaching career in Brookville, taught twenty years in the Piqua City School District including Springcreek Township and retired in 1978 from the Vandalia-Butler Schools following an additional fourteen years of teaching. She was credited with establishing the first Reading Center in the Vandalia-Butler Schools at the Junior High level. During retirement she remained active as a volunteer at Aullwood Audubon Nature Center, Brukner Nature Center, Darke County Park District Nature Center, and Hospice of Darke County. She was a member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ in Piqua, attended the Greenville Church of the Brethren, and was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and Darke County Teachers Association.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 11:00 am in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. William R. Hewitt and Chaplain Bob Bitner co-officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:00-3:00 pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Resident Aid Fund c/o Brethren Retirement Community, 750 Chestnut Circle, Greenville, OH 45331.
