Caughy - Mrs. Ellen Caughy, widow of Benjamin Caughy, died at her home, West Lanvale street, Baltimore, on Monday last. Her maiden name was Ellen Baseman and she was a daughter of the late John and Rebecca Baseman, of Baltimore county. She was born September 15, 1817, on the old family estate on the Deer park road, about four miles from Reisterstown. Her great-grandfather, John Baseman, was the first settler on the land, which has been in the baseman family more than two hundred years. her father died when Mrs. Caughy was 10 years of age, and her mother, whose maiden name was Rebecca Griffy, of Baltimore county, died about thirty years ago. Mrs. Caughy is survived by two daughters. The funeral took place on Wednesday, the services being conducted by Rev. J. B. Boggs, pastor of Reisterstown M. E. Church South. The pall bearers were Messrs. Reister Russell, Peter G. Zouck, John Ulthman, M. C. Hidgdon, George C. Brown and W. Wills.
