Jesse Clayton Reed was born on October 17, 1985 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of James Terrence Reed and Ruby Ann (Bess) Reed.

He was married to Mary "Ellen" (Reynolds) Clark, and they lived in Pegram.

Jesse always wanted to be a GI Joe, and he served in the US Marine Corps from 2004-2008 with two tours in Iraq which changed him forever.

He continued in his grandfather Stanley Bess's footsteps and joined the Nashville Fire Department in October 2013 and made his way to station 2 - aka The Rock - on Engine 2 A-shift. In addition to being a fire fighter, he was a paramedic with Metro and qualified in Hazmat, Rope Rescue and Vehicle Extrication. Jesse also worked part-time for Cheatham County Emergency Medical Service as a paramedic and was also with Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department as a Paramedic/Fire Fighter.

He was a quiet humble man, with a witty sense of humor and uncanny ability to make you laugh. Growing up he was always smiling and knew the precise moment to crack a joke and make everyone smile.

Jesse was 32 years old when he went missing in the Tennessee River on March 6, 2018, and after an exhaustive and humbling search, his body was found March 17th.

Preceded in death by his grandfathers James Clayton Reed and Stanley Eugene Bess and by his father-in-law Harold Reynolds, he was survived by his wife, two Clark stepsons and an Ola stepson, his Reynolds mother-in-law, two Reed brothers and his Bess and his Reed grandmothers.

Remembrance and Funeral Mass was at The Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville's Catholic Pastoral Center, and burial was in Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Original obituary at Spring Hill Funeral Home on March 20, 2018, with much added info in the obit on March 21st.
