She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Dr. Lloyd A. Bonner; two beloved and adored daughters, Tikia J. Bonner-Reynolds of Sterling, VA and Charmian N. Bonner of Baltimore, MD; two loving sisters, Dr. Brenda McCurdy of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada and Gayle Littell of West Bloomfield, MI; a loving nephew, Jamin Littell, PA-C (Melissa PA-C) and baby daughter, Liliana Littell of Brighton, MI; brothers-in-law, Dr. Howard McCurdy of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, the late Jeffery Littell of West Bloomfield, MI, and Leon Bonner (partner, Redge Meixner) of Mountain View, CA; step-nieces, Linda McCurdy, Esq., of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada, Leslie McCurdy of Windsor, Ontario, Canada and Cheryl Ducre of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada; step-nephew, Brian McCurdy of LaSalle, Ontario, Canada; goddaughter, Erin Galbreath of Durham, NC; a multitude of cousins and a host of friends remain as her spirit lives in their hearts.
She received her undergraduate degree in sociology from Virginia Union University, where she was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Beta Epsilon Chapter. She received her graduate degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University, and post-master degree in Studies in Social Work Supervision from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA.
She worked diligently as a Child Welfare Worker for Virginia State Department of Welfare and Institutions, Medical Social Worker for Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Social Work, Richmond, VA, Medical Social Worker for Henry Ford Hospital Department of Social Work, Detroit, MI, Program Coordinator for Brighton Gardens Senior Living by Sunrise, Richmond, VA, and Homework Instructor for First Shiloh Baptist Church SonLight Learning Center, Mechanicsville, VA.
She was a faithful and loyal Christian servant of the First Shiloh Baptist Church of Mechanicsville throughout her life, where she served diligently as Sunday School Secretary, member of the Youth Advisory Council, President of the Youth Department, Chairman of the Board of Christian Education, Chairman of Church Leadership Council, and Secretary of the Church Nurses Ministry.
In the greater community, her involvement included various positions within the Chickahominy Baptist Association, including Vice President of the Youth Division, President of the Division of Women, and Chairman of the Program Committee.
She was a committed vocalist and guitarist in The Wright Family Singers, which was a concert and radio recording group of the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s.
A Celebration of her Life at a memorial service was held 2pm on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at First Shiloh Baptist Church, 8150 Walnut Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Rev. Dr. R. Neal Siler, Senior Pastor, officiant. A reception followed in the First Shiloh Baptist Church Youth and Community Enrichment Center.
