Max Delroy Hill, 90, of Caldwell, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 17th, 2018.

He was born on November 27, 1927, and was the last survivor of the 13 children of Henry Hill and Elnora Ann Ellis Hill. Max's parents owned and operated the Bear Creek Ranch in Swan Valley, Idaho, now inundated by the waters of the Palisades Reservoir at Calamity Point.

His early years were spent on the ranch and he attended the one room school reached by a swinging footbridge across the Snake River. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1945, and entered the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. For much of his tour of duty, he was stationed on the island of Saipan in the sourh Pacific. Following his honorable discharge from the army he returned to Idaho Falls and began what would be a 45 year banking career at the Bank of Eastern Idaho.

On July 2nd, 1948 he married Charleen Ann Wright in Idaho Falls. His banking career lead him and his wife to live in every part of the State of Idaho and they made friends from all over the state.

Max served as Branch Manager in the banks located in Richfield, New Plymouth, Bonners Ferry and Caldwell. At what was then, the Continental State Bank in Richfield, he was the youngest Branch Manager in the history of the Idaho Bankers Association. He was active and involved in the civic life of each of the Idaho communities in which he lived. At one time or another he was a member and officer of the local Kiwanas Club, Lions Club, and upon moving to Caldwell in 1972 he became a member of the Rotary Club. He also served as President of the Chambers of Commerce in each of those Idaho cities. While living in Bonners Ferry he was a strong proponent of the North Idaho Chamber of Commerce. In Caldwell he served two terms as chairman of the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Board.

Max retired from what had become First Interstate Bank as Senior Vice President and Manager of the two branches then in Caldwell.

After retiring from the bank, he embarked on a second career as a claims adjuster for several crop insurance companies. He became so proficient in dealing with apple crops that he was asked to teach classes regarding apple crop adjustments to other agents.

He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Idaho Golf Angels. With his son Rick, Max had continuously participated in league bowling for the past 51 years. He was also a pilot. He was a member of the BPOE for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Dale; by his parents, and his eight brothers and four sisters. All were raised in the LDS Church.

Max is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Charleen, at the home in Caldwell, his son Thomas Max of Washington D.C. And Bethany Beach Delaware, his son Richard Alan and his wife Linda of Caldwell, and his granddaughter Michelle Wimer (Scott) and their two children, Brynn and Ridge of Lewiston.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Ammon Cemetery in Idaho Falls on Monday March 26th, 2018 at 2pm, under the direction of the Dakan Funeral Chapel.
