Charles F. Sterling, Jr., a Newberry, S.C. native and long-time resident of Fredericksburg, peacefully passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital at the age of 93.

During WWII, he served aboard a destroyer famed for capturing a German submarine. He retired from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and was a member of Machinist Union #2135 and Stafford American Legion #290.

Rarely missing a Sunday, Mr. Sterling was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He participated in YMCA water aerobics, various group and family reunions and was an avid fan of Mary Washington basketball. He was an active member of the community right up until his passing.

Survivors include his daughter, Diane Klein (Don); daughter Linda Hardy (Howard); daughter-in-law Yuen Sterling; grandchildren Randy Hardy, Sarah Barber (Tony), Ben Sterling, James Sterling, Brian Lussier, Amy Stewart (Wesley), Christopher Lussier, Matthew Klein and Denise Lussier; and great grandchildren Liam, Anna, Alyssa, Elijah, Daniel, Emma and Mary; brothers Boyce and J. T. Sterling; and sister Dorothy Senn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sterling; son Joseph Sterling; daughter Nancy Lussier; brother Everett Sterling; and sister Elizabeth Mauney.
