Gary “Garfish” Brooks, 66, died March 17, 2018, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Mr. Brooks was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and has resided in Fort Pierce since he was 4 years old.

Gary retired as an Engineer with the St. Lucie County Fire Department, serving from 1982-1997. He was the Treasurer of the Union and was an original member of the HAZMAT response team. He was a member of the SCCA Formula Vee Racing, Open Wheel from 1973-1975 and was involved with Autohaus from the early 70’s where he became co-owner. He was also the chaplain of the Royal Rangers and a member of Genesis Community Church, where he was a Kidz Church teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Charles Brooks; son, Ethan (Chrissy) Brooks; daughter, Lyndsay Brooks; father-in-law, Gary D. (Nelda) Charles, Sr.; brother-in-law, Gary (Caroline) Charles, Jr.; niece, Christa Charles. In addition, he is survived by Vince Grindle and “brothers from another mother”, Glenn Parramore, Dale Gilmore, and James Canady.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Vida Brooks and mother-in-law, Anna Marie Charles.

Services: Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 3-5 PM with a service to follow at 5:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce.
