Merlyn Jean Reich, age 85, of Rice Lake, WI passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at her home. She was born on August 24, 1932 in Montello, WI to Walter and Evelyn (Schmitz) Crown. She graduated Valedictorian from Montello Public High School in 1950. Merlyn married Gerhardt “Gary” Reich on August 6, 1955 at Trinity Methodist Church in Montello, WI. Gary and Merlyn owned and operated South Shore Lodge in Canada for 2 years. After retirement in 1992 they moved to Rice Lake and she worked part-time for First Lutheran Church in order to help members. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband in Canada. Merlyn Reich is survived by her niece, Patricia (Charles) Crown-Getz of Hartford, WI; nephews, Steve (Colleen) Kern of Racine, WI, Michael (Rosie) Reich and Phillip Reich. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Crown; husband, Gerhardt “Gary” Reich; and brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Dorothy Crown. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 22, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Jerry Bernecker officiating, with interment at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Almena, WI. Visitation will be held from 10 - 11 AM Thursday at First Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals, 19 W. Messenger St., Rice Lake, WI.
