He was Protestant and a member and past president of the Inverness Shuffleboard Club, a 32nd degree Mason, and member of the Weston Masonic Lodge, Weston, Ohio. He was an amateur radio operator and active in community affairs and its city council.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rose Adams Thurman; a daughter, Linda J. Braithwaite, Apopka; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
