Patrick Arthur Riley was born to Benjamin A. and Geraldine (Tunnell) Riley on November 16, 1951. He passed away at home, surrounded by loving family on Friday, October 6, 2017, following a valiant 12 year battle with cancer. He was 65.

Pat grew up in Fresno, CA, and graduated from McLane High School in 1969. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard for six years, and was honorably discharged in 1976. Pat was also a Master Mason with the Las Palmas-Ponderosa Masonic Lodge No. 366.

Pat worked for Delk-Terminex, obtaining his state license for pest and termite control. He and Ron Garrett, opened United Pest Control in the late 1970s. They sold the company in the early 1980s. Pat then went to work for Johnston Industrial. Shortly after that, Pat started with Fresno Unified School District as a warehouse worker and truck driver. During this time, he obtained his real estate license. He worked part time for Century 21, Adanalian & Jackson.

While with FUSD, Pat became involved with the Service Employees International Union, as the warehouse site representative. He later became the chapter President.

Pat left FUSD when he was hired by the SEIU field office as a field representative. Pats territory was Riverdale Unified School District classified personnel, FUSD classified personnel, non-clerical and FUSD Substitute Teachers. He had a passion for helping the underdog.

He retired in December of 2016, as the Assistant Director to SEIU Chapter 521.

Pat grew up playing baseball and became a lifelong, die hard Boston Red Sox fan. He was thrilled when he took his family to Boston to watch the Red Sox play at Fenway Park and to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Riley; father-in-law, Roy Bennett; sister-in-law, Connie Bennett Jones; and niece, Kristen Ackley. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, of 44 years; daughters, Heather Riley and husband, Christian Franciski, and Stephanie Riley Ashley and husband Rodney; two grandsons, Bennett and Logan, who were the absolute love of his life; his mother, Geraldine Riley; brother, Steven Riley and wife Randi; and a large extended loving family.

A special thank you to Drs. L. Thomas Hackett, and Michael Moffett of Fresno; Drs. George Fisher, Pamela Kunz, and John Louie of Stanford Cancer Center; his nurse Mary, and health aid Isabel, from St. Agnes Hospice for their extraordinary care.

Pat's Celebration of Life will be held at First Church of God, 3920 N. First Street, Fresno, CA, on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon at Wedgewood Banquet Center, located at 4584 W. Jacquelyn Ave, Fresno, CA.
