Born in Oregon, James Fred Woolery was the son of F. and Maria Woolery. According to the 1860 US Federal Census, Fifteen Mile, Wasco, OR, his father was born in MO and his mother was born in IL. By 1889, Mr. Woolery was a farmer in Pierce County, WA; his connection, if there is one, to the early pioneer Woolery family of Pierce, WA, is not known. Sometime around 1898, he married the daughter of another pioneer family of Pierce County: Ruby F. Starr. The 1900 Orting Town, Pierce, WA, census lists the Woolery family: Fred J. 39, Ruby F. 24, and daughter, Leta M. 1 (the future Mrs. Paul Browning Pinney).

FRED WOOLERY, PIONEER OF ORTING, DEAD

ORTING. Sept, 8 –(Special.)- Fred Woolery, 65, for 45 years a resident here, died Monday at the Lake View sanitarium. He is survived by his mother, a brother, Henry Woolery, and one sister, Mrs. Fremont Annis of Alderton. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
