Mrs. Frankie Jane Smith died Sunday morning , January 5,1941 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mattie K. Derry, 800 S. Pine Street. Death was from influenza which lasted 10 days.

She was the daughter of Harry and Julia Burton, she was born in Gonzales, TX, March 10,1863. She received her early education in Gonzales.

On December 20,1878 she married Allen N. Smith of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The marriage occurred in Gonzales. Soon after marriage the couple relocated to San Antonio. Allen preceded her in death, June 5,1928. He was born May 5,1855. She was also preceded in death by four children.

There were eight children born to this marriage.

Five of their children are deceased:
1. Rosa was born in 1880 and died in Bexar County in 1902
2. James was born in 1888 and he was married to Minnie. The marriage took place in San Francisco, CA in 1918. They were divorced in Oakland, CA in 1934. James died in Reno, NV, June 18, 1936.
3. Ulysses was born in 1892 and was married to Carrie in Portland, OR in 1914. They were divorced in 1927. He died in Bexar County in 1931
4. Mamie was born in 1894. She was married to Rugent Adminson in 1912
5. Myrtle was born in 1900. She was married in 1922 to Hillard Moore in Seattle, WA. She died September 28, 1923. Neither of Frances five children had children of their own.

Mrs. Smith joined St.Paul Methodist Episcopal Church in 1879. She became the leader of Class 19 and served in that capacity for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was very active in church work and it was her delight to attend worship services. She was known as a devout Christian, a devoted wife and mother and sincere friend.

She was employed in private homes as a Laundry woman and Maid.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 10,1941 under the auspices of Amanda Chapter No. 82, from St.Paul Methodist Church. Rev. Robert S. Mosby, officiating. Interment was in the City Cemetery #3 with Sutton and Sutton Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her children: John A. Smith, Reno, Nevada, daughter Mrs. Bessie Freeman, Oakland, CA and Mrs. Mattie K. Derry, San Antonio, three sisters Mrs. W. B. Smith, Ft. Worth, TX, Mrs. V.J. Scott, Gonzales, TX and Mrs. Ellen Polk, of San Antonio.
