Funeral services for Elaine Myrtle Griffith, 84, of Sulphur will be Saturday, November 13, 2004 at 10:00 AM from the Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 2051 E. Napoleon Street, Sulphur, Louisiana. Rev. Steve Shirley will officiate. Burial will be in the Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Griffith died at 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 10, 2004 in her home. Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Friday, November 12, 2004 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM and on Saturday, November 13, 2004 from 8:00 A.M. until service time.

Mrs. Griffith was a life long resident of Sulphur and was a member of the first Baptist Church of Carlyss. She was a graduate of Sulphur High and worked at the Union Sulphur Company until her marriage in 1942. Mrs. Griffith and her beloved husband, Shirley W. Griffith, and son, Steve Griffith, owned Griffith's Air Conditioning and Appliance for many years.

She was the daughter of Sulphur pioneer families on both her mother and father's side. Her mother, Adele Andrus, was descended form the Coward Family that settled the Nibletts Bluff area in the 1820's and her father, Ralph Simmons, whose family settled in the area north of Sulphur in the 1880's. Mrs. Griffith and her sister, Rose, are most remembered for the snow cone stand that they opened in 1937 on the corner of Pearl and Huntington St. across from Frasch School.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Shirley Griffith, and sister, Lucille Ravia.

Survivors included one daughter, Penny Carnahan, and husband, Steve, one son, Steve Griffith, and wife Corliss; two grandsons, Craig Griffith of Sulphur and Aaron Carnahan of Fort Worth, Texas, one great granddaughter, Hanna Griffith; and one sister, Rose Wing.
