Norman E. Wilder, formerly of Donnelly, Idaho, passed away on March 13, 2018, at a local hospital, surrounded by family and friends.

Norm was born on April 11, 1932, in Kennewick, Washington to Vane R. and Gladys M. Wilder and was the second of four children. He attended school in Kennewick, Washington, until his junior year of high school, when the family moved to Portland, Oregon. Shortly after graduating, Norm joined the Air Force and was stationed in Greenland and then Mountain Home.

He met Billie Keltner at the Boise roller skating rink in March of 1954. They were married on October 2, 1954, and had three children. The family enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, weekends at Warm Lake, and fishing in the Owyhee’s. In 1976, they purchased property in Donnelly and began their love affair with building a log cabin. Norm worked for Garret Freightlines for 33 and a half years delivering to local businesses. He retired in 1989 and by 1992 Billie and Norm had sold their home in Boise and moved to their cabin in Donnelly full time. During retirement, Norm spent his days keeping the cabin immaculate. He was often found putting log oil on the logs, cutting wood, mowing grass, or blowing snow. He was quite a craftsman with wood; building one-of-a-kind lamps, hope chests, furniture, or anything you could make out of wood.

Billie and Norm enjoyed visits from their grandchildren; taking them for boat rides on the lake, snowmobiling, or for a good ride on the lawnmower. They were devoted to traveling to their sporting events, dance recitals, and special school activities. He truly loved helping his neighbors and created a community of friends who were willing to do anything to take care of each other. Norm and Billie attended the Donnelly Bible Church; where they found a tremendous support system and made even more lifelong friends.

Norm is survived by his wife of 63 years, Billie; his son, David (Cathie) Wilder; his daughter, Diane Gross; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Roy Wilder; his sister, Elaine Wilder; many nieces and nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lynn Wilder; his son, Mark Wilder; his son-in-law, Ray Gross.
