Ray Davidson was born in Knoxville. TN, the son of Howard and Ersula Davidson. He was a 1955 graduate of Rule High School.

His father passed away suddenly when Ray was 10 years old. That is when Ray began to develop his incredible work ethic. Ray started to work out of necessity. He delivered papers with his older brother Larry before school and then again delivered papers after school. Little did he know this would be the beginning of a lifelong career in the media.

Following his graduation from high school in 1955, Ray was offered a position in the matte room with the Knoxville Journal. Shortly afterwards, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley West. In 1957 Ray accepted a transfer to the Savannah News Press and the two 20 year old newlyweds headed off to Savannah, GA. There in 1958 Ray became the proud Father of his son, Allen.

Ray and Shirley moved back to Knoxville in 1961 and Ray accepted a position with WNOX radio. A year later in 1962, Ray joined the sales staff of WBIR radio which was the start of a 30 year career as a highly successful Account Executive. WBIR radio later became WIMZ. Year after year, Ray was recognized as the highest grossing Account Executive. This extended to Ray being recognized nationally by Stoner Broadcasting as one of the top Account Executives within their national fleet of media stations.

Ray retired from WIMZ in 1992 at the age of 55. He and Shirley truly enjoyed the early retirement. They spent time with their grandchildren, enjoyed traveling and their friends.

Preceded in death by his Father William Howard Davidson, Mother Ersula Baker Davidson, Brother Larry Davidson, and Brother Rev. Steve Davidson.

He leaves behind Shirley Davidson, his wife of 62 years; son, Allen Davidson (wife Cathy); grandchildren: Brad Davidson (wife Townley, great grandchild Westley) and Brent Davidson (wife Lisa).

The family will receive friends Saturday March 17th from 5-7 PM followed by a funeral service at Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home, 2300 Adair Drive, Dominique Lee, Pastor of Hope Fellowship will officiate. A graveside service will be held Sunday March 18th at 2PM at Lynnhurst Cemetery.
